🗣️Decision Making

The Eco30 community will communicate primarily via Discord. This will be an informal environment for the sharing of news, updates, and general discussion around all aspects of Eco30. As the community reaches sufficient support around a new proposal, the conversation will transition to Discourse, the official channel for governance. Proposal drafts will be available for community input and comment, before finalizing them for an official token based vote.

The token-votes will be determined by the self-nominated committee members, who will be required to stake tokens into various governance pools in order to receive the committee specific governance tokens that will make them eligible to vote. Staking for governance will require token holders to forgo their liquidity for a stake in the governance of a particular topic area. These votes will be weighted according to the number of tokens staked. Committee members will be able to unstake their interest at any time, and will receive their tokens back after a short grace period. In order to qualify for a vote, tokens will have to be staked for a particular period of time to verify genuine interest in the committee.

In order to limit network vulnerability, and the likelihood of any bad-actors taking control of the network to serve their own benefit, rather than the benefit of the whole, committee voting will be limited to areas that do not pose a critical threat to Eco30 as a whole. Furthermore, all proposals that have financial implication will require a supermajority of votes (as determined by the charter) in order to pass. These rules will be amended by the council as the network experiments with accomplishing its goals, learns and grows. For example, the council may choose to implement a one-person one-vote mechanism that requires a verification of personhood in order to participate in key decisions, limiting the ability for anyone to buy votes.
